Construction Update For September 4th
|
Simi Valley - This Saturday, we will be finishing the siding on house # 1 and doing some insulation, caulking and possibly some dry walling on house # 2 and # 3. Our goal is to have our 3 families in their new homes by Thanksgiving. Please join us to make this happen!
Oxnard - Due to circumstances beyond our control, we will need to postpone our groundbreaking of our Cooper Road worksite until Saturday, September 13th.. If you were planning on volunteering that day, please consider helping us on another day. Because of the smaller size of this worksite, we will only be able to accommodate 15-20 volunteers per work day. If you would like to schedule a group for our Oxnard project, please contact Matt Gilling @ 805-485-6065 or mattg@habitatventura.org mattg@habitatventura.org.
Santa Paula - We are on schedule to breaking ground on Saturday, October 4th. If you live or work in the Santa Paula area and would like to be part of our 50th house celebration, please sign up on line or call Matt for further details. Come out and be part of something special!
Special Volunteer Recognition!!
|
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Staff here at Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, we would like to recognize the outstanding efforts of Kelly Ross! Kelly is a Girl Scout working on her Eagle Badge with a local troop in Simi Valley. She has been coming to our worksite every week for the last 4 months and collecting empty water bottles and aluminum cans for recycling. Kelly used part of the money that she collected from recycling and bought 6 ladders for our construction site that we desperately needed. She donated the rest of the money to local charitable organizations. Thank You Kelly for your helping both Habitat for Humanity and the environment! We really appreciate it!!
Special Group Recognition!!
|
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the groups of volunteers who come out and help us each week. This past week, we had volunteers from the following groups: the Wednesday Crew, the Cal Lutheran University Volunteer Club, Shepard of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Hills, the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks and Waste Management from Simi Valley. We really value our relationships with these groups and are glad that we can work together to end poverty housing in Ventura County!
On Saturday, October 25th, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County will celebrate its 25th Anniversary of helping deserving families to achieve their dream of homeownership. A special fundraising dinner will be held at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. The evening's festivities include a VIP concert by Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix, a silent and live auction featuring a collection of amazing items, along with dinner and dancing. For more information regarding this exclusive event, please contact Suzzi Crouch at 805-485-6065, ext. 102 or at suzzic@habitatventura.org. Don't miss out on the event of the year!
Home & Garden Show September 19, 20 & 21st
|
The annual Ventura County Fall Home & Garden Show is coming up next month at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. This is an opportunity for us to showcase our ReStore and its impact on the environment and the community (last year alone, we diverted 32 tons from being deposited into local landfills). We really need volunteers to come out and help staff our booth on Saturday and Sunday. If you can spare a couple of hours to help us out, we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your support!
Office Volunteers Desperately Needed!!
|
As our 25th Anniversary year continues to be a very exciting time for our affiliate, it has also increased our workload exponentially. We are in desperate need of some office volunteers to help us answer phones, to data entry and help with our mailing campaigns. If you could even spare just two hours per week (especially in the afternoon), that would be very helpful. Please contact Matt if you can help out.
Wine Tasting For a Good Cause!
|
On Thursday evening, September 25th, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County will be hosting a wine tasting event at Herzog Winery in Oxnard. Please join us for an evening of fine wine, amazing appetizers, great music and a lot of fun. Tickets are only $40.00 per person and are available by contacting Suzzi at extension 102. Don't miss out on an opportunity to support our mission and enjoy some of the County's finest wines at the same time!
Our Family Support team is in need of volunteer Family Partners who are bilingual to work with our current and future Habitat families. This team assists families through the construction phase and closing process to ensure a successful transition into homeownership. The family is educated on how to become self-sufficient and responsible homeowners, as well as informed about the requirements of owning a home with Habitat. Anyone wishing to joint the Family Support Team please call Matt Gilling at 805-485-6065, ext. 105 or email him at mattg@habitatventura.org. Thanks in advance for your support!!
