Meet Alexis
For two years, Alexis Davila and her two children lived with Alexis' niece, helping with expenses in exchange for a comfortable place to stay. But even living with family can be tough when you don't have space to call your own.
"We just wanted a place to make food, invite friends over, and enjoy a Dodger game," said Alexis.
Alexis is a second grade teacher, and many times she'd get home after a long day with her students, ready to relax, only to find her daughter doing homework on the bed they shared. Without a place to study, celebrate, or unwind, the family grew exhausted and depressed.
Then one day, an email from Habitat Ventura caught her attention. Alexis was so excited about the application, she postponed a vacation just to hand it in herself. When she finally received the call, she was in disbelief.
"I couldn't believe it. I still don't believe it. I can't wait to tell people my new address," said Alexis.
