Meet Marta
For Marta Peralta and her daughters, Mirka and Mary Jane, being a family means spending time together.
Years ago, the Peraltas had a home of their own. "We were always the house that had people over," Mary Jane said.
But changing circumstances forced them to move—and then move again. For a while, their living arrangements were unstable and uncertain, and they couldn't always be together.
Finally, after years of searching, Marta and her daughters reunited in a small one-bedroom apartment. The three of them would gather in the living room with friends and family to watch movies and spend time together, finding a place to sit wherever they could. The space didn't matter.
“We made it beautiful," Marta said.
Now, after being chosen for a Habitat home at Vista Campanario in Camarillo, Marta can hardly believe it.
"It's a dream come true," she said. "I had already accepted that I would never have a home."
