On Wednesday February 10, 2016, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County and The Home Depot celebrated the completion of a home preservation at the home of veteran Michael Izquierdo of Santa Paula. Much-needed repairs included a renovation of the master bathroom, kitchen cabinet replacement, installation of a water heater, new windows and most importantly, door widening for wheelchair accessibility. The Home Depot Foundation provided a grant of $11,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County to offset repairs and project costs. In addition to this grant, funding was also provided by the County’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
For more than 30 years, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County has supported and worked with military service members and veterans building and repairing homes for those in need. Building on our strong tradition of serving those who serve, we are now expanding our efforts through Habitat for Humanity International’s Veterans Build Initiative. By operating together as a part of a larger effort, we hope to support more veterans in our community with housing and provide volunteer opportunities that value and honor their dedication to service.
