The Arreola Family

“Thank you, thank you! We’re so grateful to Habitat. It’s so nice to know that this organization wants to help and change lives for the better,” Ricardo, Habitat Home Repair Recipient.

Meet the Arreola family! We provided critical health and safety repairs to their home through our Habitat Home Repair Program.

Ricardo and Clara’s eldest son Ulices was born with a condition called Arthrogryposis and is wheelchair-bound. Making accommodations to their home for Ulices, while being a top priority for their family, has proven to be a great financial challenge. “We need a lot of repairs done to our home to make his life easier, but these repairs are so expensive. Out of pocket, no matter what we do, we can’t afford it,” Clara said. Their greatest challenge, she explained, has been their shower. “Right now, this house doesn’t have an accessible shower for him. We have to move him from one chair to another. It’s not easy and we want him to have his independence too,” Clara said.

Clara applied for our Habitat Home Repair Program and when she got the call she said it was a life-changing moment, “I turned to my husband and said, ‘look how blessed we are’ and I couldn’t believe it.” After many applications and rejections, they are finally able to give their son the tools he needs for a better quality of life, and independence. “This will help change our lives and his life entirely. Thank you,” Clara said.
